Welcome to the Wild World of Relay Cropping
Relay cropping is exactly what it sounds like: passing the baton from one crop to the next. A second crop — in this case, soybeans — is seeded into a standing crop — here, winter wheat — before the first is harvested, creating a short window where both grow together in the same field. The result? More living roots, better land use, and the potential to harvest two crops in a single season. Join Fields of Sinsinawa as we share our first real-world experience with relay cropping — the wins, the lessons, and yes, a few moments of chaos along the way.
We'll meet at the shed at 2551 County Rd. Z, Hazel Green, WI, then load up on people movers to go see the field. After the event, we'll come back to the shed for burgers and camaraderie.
Here's a short video of the soybeans being drilled between the wheat earlier this spring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7CqnvsxixY
